Workshops
Photography is art – your art.
Before a camera ever leaves its bag, or is raised to the eye, photography is a feeling – it’s you responding to what is before you; something that has stirred a reaction within you. Photography after all, is within before it is without.
In my workshops, I will work with you to uncover your vision; to understand what you’re feeling and how to photograph in a way that represents what you felt at the time.
Photography these days places far too much emphasis on gear. While modern cameras are a technological marvel, they don’t make you a better photographer. But understanding the simple fundamentals of photography will.
To paraphrase Ansel Adams, the most important part of photography is what’s standing behind the camera. If your interest is with megapixels and histograms, with focus tracking and burst rates, then this workshop may not be for you (although perhaps it should be!). But if your interest is in becoming a better photographer, then I encourage you to get in touch.
My aim is to strip away the endless menus and return photography to its essential elements – the ones you need to capture your vision.
Testimonial
I recently completed a half-day photography course with Matthew and highly recommend it. His depth of knowledge and experience is clear, but what truly stands out is his passion for teaching. Matthew has a wonderful ability to explain photography in a way that simply makes sense. He makes it accessible and engaging, even for beginners.
Matthew is patient, encouraging, and genuinely celebrates your “aha” moments with you. Beyond the technical skills, he helps you develop your creative eye and confidence behind the camera. I left feeling inspired, more confident, and excited to keep learning.

All workshops are held in Sydney, Australia
Half Day
Whether you’re just dipping your toes into this photography game, need a refresh, or feel like something’s missing, this half-day workshop will lay the foundations, get you back to basics or back on track.
Cost: $400
Full Day
It’s time to dive deeper into what you want to photograph and why. Similar to the Half Day workshop, full day will give us more time to explore and work through the questions you might have, what’s holding you back, and what you want to learn.
Cost: $750
Two-Day Workshop
Very practical and very hands on. Multiple locations, time to thoroughly review the day’s work and apply what you learned in Day 1, to Day 2.
Cost: $1200
Group Workshop
Sometimes it’s just better with friends. Do you know others wanting to develop their photography? Why not get a few people together for a private group workshop?
Maximum five people.
Cost:
Half day: $300 per student
Full day: $500 per student
Prior work
Regardless of which workshop you choose, I’d love to know more about you. Please write a few paragraphs about what photography means to you, where it fits into your life, and what you hope to learn.
But please tell me more! Who are the photographers, artists, dancers, poets, musicians who inspire you? What images of your own have made you smile and are you most proud of? And which ones have missed the mark (and yes, I’d love to see both!).
Afterwards
Photography is a lifelong journey. As your photography teacher, I have a vested interest in your development. After the workshop, I’d be honoured if you kept in touch, showed me your latest work, let me know how you’re getting on, or threw me a question or two.
